Motivation & Learning Activities at Reso

Learning Groups at RESO

In the month of December 2003, there was an idea clicked about the Learning Groups. The purpose of these groups was to develop interaction and harmony among employees from different departments. Initially 6 (six) groups were formed.

Design & Structure

There were 6 members in each group. There is only one condition that the members in any Group should not be from the same department.

Performance Management

Each group selected its Special Interest (Performance Goal). The initial special interests were Communication, Energy
Saving, Sports & Events, Safety, Health & Environment, Customer Delight, and Education.
Each group identifies its Key Performance Indicators. The group that achieves those objectives will get the reward.
The groups were asked to meet once a week and distribute the goals accordingly.
They were also asked to include atleast one objective for personal development.
The performance was measured on monthly basis and all the groups present their performance reports in the Monthly
Review Meeting.

Motivation

The motivation and achievements of the groups were awesome. Despite the cultural constraints the response was overwhelming. The group leaders lead the members well and they achieve their goals with zest and fervor.

Managing Change

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got!”
(Michael Gentle, Ilford, January 1991)
The thing, which worked for us during all this time, was that we were not afraid of Change. Whether it was the matter of shuffling of team members, leaders or objectives we did not hesitate to take the tough decisions.

What Next

Alhamdulillah that all the LGs are functional and striving to get the desired results. Now we are going for the next phase of synergy. Merging the Labor with staff. We are planning to include atleast 2 (two) Helpers in all the LGs. They will decide their objectives and leaders independently. Also, they can drop any nonperforming member with the consent of other members.
